We need information about Miss J Cruikshank [aged about 80], Ardshean, Dufftown. She gave Carpenter an 1885 clipping of a unique version of Willie Mackintosh, and sang Allan Roy, and Lass Of Loch Royal.
Dufftown was a rich source of ballads. In 1942 Scots folklorist Francis Collinson collected from a Sarah Cruickshank - a relative of Miss J?

There is a Carpenter 1931 recording in Dufftown that names three other singers - Mrs Mathieson, Miss Inch and Mrs John. I have not found any more about them.
Carpenter also recorded a singer elsewhere who came from Dufftown,
Jessie Davidson nee Duncan of Spey Bay was born in Dufftown.
